two way switch in kitchen, both work , but have to turn light off from the switch it was turned on from

Has it always been like this, or has it just been wired?

If it has just been wired then it is wired incorrectly and should be wired like this http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/two_way_lighting.htm
