Hi, I have Vauxhall Vectra N reg(1996) 1.7td , the side screen on the dash-board does not work properly. I cant see clear the ouside air temperature or the time, or the radio station which is playing on. Some of the sigments are not glowing... I did change it couple of times with different ones, but still the same....cant make it work clear as it needs to be...
Can you give me any advise what the reason might be........
many thanks

When you say you have changed it a couple of times, what have you changed? there are bulbs behind the dash and it sounds like one may have blown.

I would be thinking bulbs too, however it could be the actual LCD display has failed,

Individual segement 'failure' is normally associated with the contacts on the LCD itself. These are sometimes 'zebra-strips' that comprise alternate conductive/non-conductive strips in a black/white strip and are used to make contact between the LCD itself and a strip of gold-plated contacts on the circuit board below the LCD. Poor contact cleanliness and even distortion of the circuit board can lead to individual segments not working.
If you can access the local area around the display, try exerting a little pressure around the circumference of the display and see if any missing segements come back on. If they do you may want to try taking it all apart to clean it.
It's not a job for the unskilled but you CAN disassemble the display and clean/reseat the zebra-strip. You do, of course, run the risk of causing permanent damage but this is an all-or-nothing cure.

....yes , I did change it couple of times using second hand ones - not a new one. Definitely will not buy a new unit, it is not worthed...... but what I also noticed was, after re-charging the battery(winter time I am doing this often), the first few days is working properly and you can see all segements glowing. After some of them start dying and it comes to the point where you cant see them at all, as I stated earlier........any idea...???
