Had a few probs since like PRM for 5years, and the blood pressure goes up and down alarmingly from about 120/78 to 160/106  but still going and enjoying life. :thumbright:

It's a shame that you had a poor experience. My cousin was diagnosed with cancer about 6 years ago and she was in within 2 weeks having an operation, followed by chemo and radiotherapy. I think it very much depends on the consultant you're under. She lives in Wiltshire, but went to Bath for her treatment.

Many of the consultants who work for the Trust here are also employed by the private hospitals. So whether you use the NHS or go private you're highly likely to be seen by the same consultant.

Have they investigated your fluctuating BP?

There was a surgeon called Robin Smith, worked at the Bath Clinic and the RUH, brilliant guy, did my op, but sadly died of a brain hemorrhage 2years later.

The problem is actually getting that far, without getting passed from pillar to post, I remember having a small stroke about 10 ears ago, saw the neurologist, done a few tests and scans and said he couldn't find anything, When I ask if that means there's nothing there or are you looking in the wrong place, he got quite upset  he did asked whether I want make an appointment for another scan.

Last Christmas I stopped taking any drugs and tablets  and been getting steadily better for it ever since. so a erratic BP is a minor problem.

Your GP should be able to do some blood tests to identify any risk factors. If he/ she has concerns they can then refer you to a specialist for further tests/ scans. It's worthwhile doing that. I've looked after people who have had severe strokes and it's devastating for them ~ loss of mobility, loss of sight, problems with swallow reflex and speech to name but a few...

Generally speaking consultants and doctors don't like anyone challenging them, they think that they're demi gods!!! I would encourage you to challenge them though... start with your GP :-)

Back on topic, I can't say anything good about the guy, except we won't have to support his worthless life on the public purse. It seems he was also a drug pusher, hs regular clients are probably missing him already, especially considering the flowers left at his point of death.

Puzzled about why it took a week to find him, have the police dogs all got blocked noses?

Well Mr Scruffy.... get back down to the GP surgery! Blood clots can cause a fluctation in BP and increase your risk factors for stroke, DVT and many long term conditions.

I'll stop bossing you now!!!

You'll have to watch it Scruff & take your pills like a good boy. Otherwise you might get burnt.

They don't mess around at the crematorium.

I bet I was taking as many as you Stoday.

Got to have this one because you're taking that, and this one because of that one, etc, etc, spent the first hour of every day taking bleeding pills.

A soon as I finished on the steroids, I stopped the lot to see what would happen.

The result is I haven't felt so good in the last 5 years.

If I don't take my two tablets in the morning, my BP soon goes up. I don't want a stroke, so I'm a good boy.

Scruff!!!!! You're putting yourself at unnecessary risk...and you really don't need to. I don't like taking tablets either, but if I need to then I make the effort because I know that it's in my best interests and saves the NHS a small fortune. A hospital admission can costs thousands, not to mention the cost of treatment.

If your BP fluctuates like you say it does, then you must feel pretty rough at times, particularly if there is a serious underlying long-term condition causing it. Please go to your GP! :-)

After I had finished Chemo and radiotherapy in 2005, a 'specialist' nurse at my old GP's put me on water tablets and dispersible asprin for 'high blood pressure'. Not knowing much about it, I took them for four years but during that time, everytime I knocked myself or just broke the skin, I bled for ages and I mean for four hours even with just a scratch on my arm.

Changed GPs when we moved house and they just kept repeating the prescriptions so eventually I stopped taking the asprin for 3 months and asked (nay, demanded) a blood test. So I saw one of the GPs and he said to get a blood test done and go back and see him. Went back and he said that as I had not taken asprin for over 3 months, there was no need to continue with it, so why did I spend 4 years taking it for no real reason.
It has left me with the problem of even slight knocks come up in big bruises on my arms and I still need plasters when I do cut myself but I don't bleed as long.

It was only because of me making a noise that my medication was fully reviewed, so it makes you wonder how many old folk are on repeat prescriptions and don't really need some of the medication, but the surgeries just keep signing prescriptions to pacify the patient or to make the job easier for the GP.

I still use my inhalers for COPD, because of shortage of breath but they DO work, as I had to come off them gradually for a month and the tests showed I needed them. I knew I needed then at the end of the month, I could not even walk to the end of the path without nearly collapsing.

Gassa said if you taser him he was likely to pull the trigger as a reflex action, so they did, and he did.

I'm supposed to take 19 a day. :puke:

Stopped taking Sinner Calcet last month because it was making me feel so bad. Maybe I wasn't sinning enough. The doc said there was no alternaive pill & I would have to have my throat cut 4 times. And they don't do the throat cut op in Ipswich I'd have to go to Cambridge. Oh & if I didn't get my throat cut my bones would turn to jelly.

Then there's the Phosex. Three a day. Haven't had any more sex, so that's not working.

Aspirin's out as a blood thinner 'cos it upsets my stomach. Instead I'm supposed to take Clappy doggerel. I skip that most days.

I do take the Fuse mide and Ohm prazole to keep the electrics up...

I'm sure sweet Butterfly understands all this medical stuff.
