I'm thinking about joining Facebook because it'll enable me to keep in touch with my young cousin, who is a bit hit and miss with e-mailing.
What details are shown on your page once you've joined, having not registered yet I thought I'd ask.

Telmay,

I can't see what a user profile looks like unless I register. Do you have privacy settings that only show your name?

You can choose to have your profile info visible only to people who you have accepted as friends - or also to friends of your friends.

Anyone else can only see your name, picture, and whether or not you and they have mutual friends.

If someone wants to add you as a friend they click on a button to send a friend request and you are sent a message to either accept, ignore, or block them.

Thanks, Inky Pete!
:thumbright:
My cousin suggested it as he's on there already, he's deaf and thought that it'd be a solution to keeping in touch.

Do you have to give your registered name or can it be what you're known as? I have a horrid first name and would avoid it if that was displayed.

Good!

My cousin is an award winning hairdresser and he told me yesterday that he worked on one of Gok Wan's shows! :thumbright:

::b I just registered and the flipping thing has frozen on the page! I just stopped everyone but friends from viewing anything. I've got none yet.

Success, I just sent my cousin a message and got one back. :thumbright:

I am on facebook, but don't tend to use it very much.

I think there is a bit too much information too freely viewable.

You may have read about employers having a look on facebook when they see CVs from job applicants, etc. I like to keep a little more anonymity on the internet

I think (if I've done it right) that I have just done mine, so that most of my details are private. I had two people try to be my friend as soon as I joined, I ignored them as I reckon they are just clocking up numbers.

My 22 year old cousin is deaf and I've never had a real chat with him, so I'm using itto catch up with his news and to see his work related comp photos.

It's a good site as long as you set your privacy settings to just friends. My cousin isn't so particular!
