Thanks root that's what I meant - extend from the existing socket, to a new double, then from the new double to a FCU (5amp????) then from here in 1.5mm to the light switch and on to the light fitting. One last thing - if the light units that I fit are double insulated and thus have no earth, do I still run an earth wire to the light swich back box, but not beyond it?

not entirely sure about that to be honest, you will need to keep the earth and run the 1.5mm t & e to the fitting and fold back the earth and put green yellow sleeving/tape on it never ever cut the earth cable out

I am probably wrong though about most things i say though :-)
