Hello, I'd be grateful if someone can help. We are installing electric underfloor heating in our bathroom. After we have laid the insulation board and then installed and tested the heating cable we will need to apply a small layer of screed (6mm). Once the screed is dry we will be laying amtico flooring.

I need some advice on screeding. Is there a special type we should use or will bog standard off the shelf ready mixed self-levelling stuff from one of the major DIY shops do the job?

i'll move this to the tiling forum as that is probably more apt than this forum as it isn't really an electrical question.

all i can add is that as far as i am aware, most "self levelling" compounds work to a max of 5mm and some less.

i take it this is on a concrete floor then?

just checking you are aware that electric heating takes a lot longer to heat a room and will cost more compared to your gas central heating to run

Make sure you use a flexible latex self levelling compound if going on top of UFH. Ardex do a good 2 part one, does whiff a bit though.

The bathroom has a timber floor. We will lay some thermal board then UFH cable then the screed.

We are simply wanting to heat the floor rather than heat the room so I don't think we will be running this at temperatures above 18C
