Over the past few days I have noticed that when I pulled the cord the light on the switch would glow only rather dimly and the shower would not switch on. Usuallly after 3 or 4 secs the light would brighten and the shower could be switched on as normal.

I tried to change the switch today but after 2 hours of struggling to fit it (as the wires from the ceiling are so short) I finally put the old switch back on and the problem has disappeared completely. Tempted to leave well alone but have a feeling the problem will return. Anyone have any ideas what it is?

Should just add that part of the problem i had fitting new switch is that there was only one earth terminal unlike the old switch which has two. I was trying to put both earth wires into the one terminal (i assume thats ok) but they kept coming out when i was trying to push the other live and neutral into place. Hence simple '5 min' job became a 2 hour curse filled nightmare lol. Think i'll look for a switch with 2 earths perhaps.

Chances are you just had a loose connection originally, re-wiring has maybe solved the problem.

I've had that same problem with the earth wires before, very annoying.

I think I managed to get them in the terminal after a while of neck ache and struggling :)

I wonder if next time I can put the earths into a connector block. If I do this i'ld probably need to put an earth link back to the switch too, so would have two wires in one side of the connector block.
