have been having trouble with billing with edf not big problems just time consuming phone calls

i want to give monthly readings which i do and get a bill generated fine so far

my annual consumption is around £690 or £59 a month at present i am £100 in credit so i am paying £50 a month so by this time next year it will be zero

now i had some trouble as they are on a new system but for the last 5 months they have accepted my monthly reading and generated bills on the first one it said it wanted £64 monthly based on my consumption at that stage around £120 in credit had it altered to £51 to allow for increases in unit costs
next bill now £130 credit they wanted £68 next month £139 wanted 72 next month £144 in credit 76 each month i phoned again but last month the "forgot" to take the standing order so this month its £100 in credit and it asked for £73???
this suggests the computer thinks my credit is arrears i suggested this and was told the computer dosnt like monthly reading so only give them when prompted twice a year

what a stupid answer the system is flawed dont blame the consumer

i am rather concerned if its increasing my bill when in credit is it doing the opposite to people in arrears and reducing there monthly payments ??

Looks like they are 'loading' the bill for the following month by a certain amount to take into account the 'probable' increase due to onset of winter conditions. In the spring the loading will probably be 'negative' i.e. your successive monthly bill will fall. Either way they usually design the software to work to THEIR financial benefit, not yours.

i have allowed for that :huray:

annual consumption gas=5500kw [£157]electric 3650kw [£369]+£162 sc = £688 13.92 discount £666= £56 a month
and at present i am still using less than i am paying for the credit is still building but expect that to change
my calculations allow for the recent price increases but not the reduction from 12 to 9 units a day mentioned below

the fair way to do it is to have a zero balance mid february and mid august in other words in maximum credit mid november and maximum defecit in may

over the last few years my electric consumption has remaind constant winter and summer with around 12- 13 a day it is now down to 8.5 to 9 a day using led bulbs and a few other tweaks

My dad was about £350 in credit last May when his supplier wanted to put his monthly DD up by around £15 a month. He asked them to refund the £350 before he'd consider upping the DD. After a few weeks of phonecalls, they did indeed reimburse him the money in credit. (his DD is still the same though and he's building up credit on his bills again) :angryfire: :angryfire:

Best way is to switch once a year and collect your quidco on the way :)
Also, I believe you are within your rights to request a payment from them to clear the balance if it's above £50 (Can't remember where I read that though)

ok update

i have just swapped to scottish power on line 17
i am still £86 in credit even after them forgetting to collect a £50 monthly payment and heres there new demands just before i swapped
Quote:
Your payments are changing
We’ve changed your Direct Debit
payment amount to: £93.00
·
This change will be effective from
21 Jan 12
·
Your new payment is based on:
£86.00 for your estimated future monthly
gas usage
·
£86.00 for your estimated future monthly
electricity usage
·
· £79.00 cr for your gas over payment

i am still in credit mid point in the winter section so not sure why they think they need to treble my payments to £172
ironiclly i joined them last year on jan the 13th and left them on jan 14th so they know my exact annual consumption

something very wrong with the computer program lol

I,m on ScotPower "Discounted Energy online monthly DD no standing charge (v2). House footprint is 100sq mtr and wife is a reptile, hence stat on 21.5C and bedroom has an electric heater on in winter during the day;she believes in lighting the house and driveway for the neighbours to see :wtf:
Our standing DD about 172quid and I reckon over the Xmas period we have gone through about 8quid a day but we are still in credit of about 230quid but guessing not for long.

my annual consumption 2 years ago was gas 5450kw and electric 4505kw or 12-13kw a day this is now down to around 9 or 10 a day to 3450kw with the gas remaining the same

the reduction off 25% being a mixture low energy to led bulbs
unpluging tv/vhs/freeview boxes when rooms empty to save standby consumption[50% of total boxes and tvs in the house]
and finaly used to leave the flat screen on in the house all day even though i would be in the shed half the time
