took the scouts to listen to Ed Stafford talk about his 6000km walk the length of the Amazon, a very enjoyable night & thoroughly recommend it if you get the chance :thumbright:
there was also a program about it on CH5 the week before but this had more stuff in it, one very poignant moment was when he was at a very low point emotionally & imagined an old army friend telling him to pull himself together then discovering that round about the time he started using him as an emotional crutch to lift his spirits, his friend had actually been killed over in Afganistan

while he was being sponsored he would buy what he needed from the villages he passed through, scariest part was when he passed through the "red zone" in Peru, where they grow the plants for the cocaine trade, he was very lucky to live through that part of the journey.
he did a lot of fishing but the only animal he killed was a tortoise & that was only out of desperation & hunger. while he was a "guest" at an encampment in the red zone he ate monkey tail
