I'm with slugster here. Taking it all back to bare wall is quite easy, just messy. Doing dot'n'dab is also straight forward - I did it for the first time a couple of months ago and I was supprised how straightforward it is. No specialised tools - altho' a board lifter at about £6 was v.helpful. To put battons up will require you to get them level, evenly spaced out and very well secured to the brick - quite a bit of effort and the cost of the wood. Then you've got to make sure you secure the plasterboard corretly to these battons.

just for the record we are not going to be doing this ourselves, so we would leave it to the experts, if we said we want to use battoning do you think they would be ok with that?

Sorry, I thought this was a DIY job.

Ask them to quote for both methods then see which is cheaper and quickest. For a 'pro' I'd suspect they'd go for battons as it less messy and you'll be picking up the bill for the timber and it'll be quicker for them.

sorry again i should have made this clear, i think we would prob go for the battons as this will be quicker and a lot less messy.
i hope the probems with door frames wont be to difficult to sort out.

+1 to that Laughing

Sorry Bretty, I went off on one without fully understanding your position.

Can now understand and now I agree with Skiking.

Good luck with the renovation.

batons are no quicker than dot n dab!!
if it was me doing the job i would get you to knock it back to brick yourself then i just dot and dab it!

You may find that it is cheaper to get a firm in to do this rather then do it yourself!

I once needed a full house drylining and I got a quote for materials and then asked a guy that I knew, he did it cheaper than I could buy the stuff for as he got a good trade discount!

Cheaper than DIY Shocked. Even by TP 2 tier pricing I'm supprised at that (not doubting you, never been quoted for the job). None of the materials are that expensive to start with. £6 for 8x4 pb, £4 a bag of board finish, adhesive £6 a bag.

It was a full three bedroom terrace, all ceilings and all the walls.

On some of the walls I had foam backed plasterboard and on the ceilings I had foil backed. There was a lot of plasterboarding and they bought it from a firm in Bolton, that does only plasterboard. I was getting it priced from B&Q and so it worked out cheaper for them to supply and fix it!

I should also add that they made it look very easy and had all the boards up in one day. They mixed a big bath full of adhesive and just threw blobs at the wall and then attached the sheets.

They overboarded a downstairs ceiling and seemed to hit the joists without even measuring Shocked

It was great to watch Thumbright

firstly i would like to thank everyone for their input, the response has been fantastic!
well today we had our first dry liner around to give is a quote, now please dont shoot me down as this is our first quote and we have no idea what it should be.
we are having 10 good size rooms dry lined with battoning, this includes the ceilings, also we are having two hall ways and one room dry lined using bonding (because the walls are in good nick) and the ceilings here as well, the downstairs hallway is about 25 yards long and the upstairs hallway is about 15 yards long
il post pictures of the rooms just so you can get a rough idea of the size of the rooms.

The quote we were given was £5800. Obviously we have more companies to come and give us a quote so please dont shoot me down saying i am stupid if this quote is Shocked !!

The downstairs lounge

The hallway just inside the front door

the hallway next to the stairs

The next two pics are of the same room from different corners of the room

This is the rest of the hallway downstairs.

This will be the downstairs bathroom

This is the Downstairs kitchen

The next two pics are of the same room.

2 pics of upstairs lounge

This is one of the bedrooms upstairs and is about 12ft by 15ft

This is the full hallway upstairs

this is the same hallway but from the other end

This the upstairs bathroom

Ths upstairs kitchen

This is two pics of the back bedroom.

The final 2 pics of the loft conversion

sorry for the amount of pics but this is so you can get a orugh idea at how big the house/rooms are.

yes it is a big house, its like a tardis inside and we have plans that are currently being looked at by our local council to see if they will allow it to be turned from a single dwelling to two apartments. This will be our 4th renovation, the amazing thing is that this house a terraced house i was really surprised when i walked in through the front door.

this is a our most recent renovtion that we have had up for sale since september. For some reason we just cannot sell it!!we have had so many people look at it, but no one is taking the bait!!

That is a very nice house!

I once struggled selling on a year or two back, the estate agents said it was like a showhome but It took me months and in the end I dropped it in price from £180k to £140K I think If I had been living there that I would of sold it much quicker and for an higher price.
