Hi There,

I am hoping you can help me. We have a pipe outside our house that looks like it is copper, but it has a plastic cover over it and it is constantly dripping. We don't know what it is, but our water bill is very high but unsure if this is the drip that is causing it or whether we have another issue elsewhere.

The house is only 3 years old and the plumbing has always been a massive issue.

i have attached a picture, would anyone know what it might be? (I can't see the otherside of the pipe, i am unsure where it goes)

Thanks for your help.

The other side is the downstairs toilet and hall with stairs. On that wall would be the small radiator, and a small corner sink. There is boxed in pipes along that wall, but think that's for the water pipes to toilet.

If it is slightly further along then there is another radiator in the hall, or you then have the stairs, under the stairs is an empty walk in cupboard.

As the house is only 3 years old, can't you get this looked at under any guarantees?

whilst a dripping noise may use water if it lost say 500ml an hour 12L a day you will waste around 4.5 tonnes off water a year or around £7-8 a year
power showers /baths use quite a bit
a ton off water is 1000L and costs about £2

Its not a toilet overflow pipe? Where someone has concealed the outlet by plugging it into a short lengh of 40mm waste.

I'd be surprised if it was a WC overflow seeing as the house is only 3 years old.

I suspect the 40mm waste around it is to protect it from cars maybe??

Does the house have a combi boiler? if so do you have to top the system up on a regualr basis.

Could really do with knowing 'exactly' what is on the otherside of the wall in that location

If its not a combi blow off, It might be a unvented cylinder warning pipe, in which case you need to get it seen to,
