On the basis that Cookery is really "Food and Drink" .....

It is time to talk Booze :boxing:

Anyone got any good stuff to recommend to drown their sorrows with?

Wines - New World Stuff does me fine
Beer - I buy whatever lager is on special offer

But I do get more picky with the Spirits ....

At the moment, I go for a nice rich Rum - the golden aged stuff rather then the White Rums, or the Dark Navy Rums. Nice with coke or maybe some freshly squeezed Fruit (holiday memories)
My Current Favourite

only problem is
1) it ain't cheap and
2) it is so nice to drink, 1/2 the bottle is gone after just 2 weeks :cb

And I am also partial to the Aniseed based drinks ... Pernos/Ricard/Pastis - we recently finished the last bottle of Fanny that came back from Spain with us in 2006

Drink a bit of Gin if need be.
Can't handle the taste of the Whiskeys or the Bourbons either

Any recommendations for some nice drinks?

Oh - and I bought a bottle of Grappa Alexander Cru years ago on recommendation of a colleague from an airport duty-free but not sure how best to drink it? anyone know?

'Orrible stuff not fit for pigs.

Rum (which I used to like but no more) then Mount Gay is one of the best (gay as in happy - the original meaning of the word not the J. Woss version)

Pastis make you go blind Ricard 45 I thinks is one of the best.

BUT for a decent spirit you cannot beat a decent malt and the best come from the Islands and there are many. One of my favourite is Talisker from Skye as in "Oh bonny boy...."

When I was working in Kiev I dined in a restaurant with a Fin who was working on the same job. He said "Fancy a pepper vodka?" So I said I'd try it. This was chili flavoured vodka.

The waiter poured out a couple of glasses and left the bottle on the table. When I mentioned that I was surprised at this, the Fin said "I ordered the bottle to drink with the meal". Hey I've never drunk half a bottle of spirits with a meal before but that went down a treat. (We had Sashlik as a main course).

Regrettably that was a one-off. Nowhere can I find chilli flavoured vodka.

Tobe

We just bought a litre of Morgan's Spiced rum, it is gorgeous stuff, on my second large glass now! We mix it with what ever we have in on the mixer front, not found anything it doesn't go with yet! :occasion5:

Chilli Vodka

INGREDIENTS:
One bottle of vodka Approximately 3 whole bird eye chillies
METHOD:
Cut stalks off the chillies and discard. Add whole chillies to bottle of vodka (you will need to pour some of the liquid out first). Ensure lid is firmly closed, leave for about a week as above.

Morgan's soiced rum is just under £17 bottle in Asda! Drinking at home, I can roll into bed and my oh can warm my feet, beats cold pubs! :thumbright:
