I have had 3 sets of damp-proofing tradesmen around to give quotes, on rising damp. But only one of them mentioned that I needed to do the floor as well as the walls  . So do I really need the floor doing? You can physically see the damp proof failure in the walls, but the floor has no signs at all, and it's a laminate floor that's been down for years so I would have expected some adverse affect if it need to be done, and I 'think' it is concrete underneath.

Help???

Any advice would be good.

youll only need to do the floor if theres no damp proof membrane underneath it...
although tanking down onto the floor edge is a good idea..
wouldnt matter if you do the job in 2 bits anyway...
get em to quote for both, them that quoted for the floor and a spec on product...
did you get them to quote for rising damp OR did you get them to come and offer a diagnosis on what exactly the problem is? if you get my drift...

I said I 'thought' i had rising damp, and when they came they confirmed that it was rising damp. But I may get another quote and word it the way you have to be sure (ie ask them to diagnose exactly what the problem is), as I was not confident in using the companies that originally quoted anyway. I've had other tradesmen out recently to quote for work, and on first impressions they all seemed 'trustworthy', and I would be happy to give them the work, but there was only 1 out of the 3 damp proofing companies that I would feel comfortable in 'trusting', so I think gettting another quote (& diagnosis) would be beneficial anyway.

I think you're wise. It's in a company's interest to sell you their wares regardless of whether you need it or not.

Perhaps giving a few photos on here plus descriptions of where the damp spots are might open up new insights.
