Sorry this thread has been locked so i thought i would start a new one.

I worked for BG and was full upto date with all my reg,s (but no longer on the tools)

My mum needed a new boiler as it was leaking and because i used to fit boilers every day for nearly 20 years i thought i would do it for her.
So i phoned Gassafe who told me i was not allowed to work on gas at all unless i was gasafe reg.
This is total madness. I have now had to registar just so i can fit my mums boiler (at a cost of about £440)

But then i see your post saying that DIY gas work is not illegal. If you ring gasafe what you are saying is unture.

Please read very carefully the reply I had from Gassafe.

Dear Sir.

Thank you for your e mail regarding the above subject. It is permissible
for some one to carry out gas DIY work in their own property as long as
the person is competent to do so.

The size of the boiler will depend on the heating/hot water load.

I trust that this has answered your question?

This is not what they told me on the phone.

Mike Thompson (Corgi) told me at a meeting that DIY gas work is no a problem in this Country.

It's also quite clear in the GSIUR.

Corgi do not have anything to do with gas anymore but thanks for your comment.

That is true, but the GSIUR is, and the above reply from Gassafe says it all anyway.

I do not understand what you mean.

Gassafe told me on the phone that you were not allowed to do DIY gas.

I don't know who you spoke too but they are wrong.

Dear Sir.

Thank you for your e mail regarding the above subject. It is permissible
for some one to carry out gas DIY work in their own property as long as
the person is competent to do so.

The email was from Gassafe, asking the same question.

I could be barking, but isn't that all the qualification you need?

Collins Dictionary:

competent adj having the skill or knowledge to do something well.

Collins Thesaurus:

competent adj = able, adequate, capable, fit, proficient, qualified, suitable.

Should have thought a BG Installer was COMPETENT.

Sounds like you said, they just wanted your 400 quid.

Get out there and do a few gas jobs to pay for it. :thumbleft:

At least mum will get a good job, unlike if BG did it. :thumbleft:
