he works in a factory at work so i don,t think he is working illegally but i may be wrong.

the question was about him working in his own home.

If he has the correct ACS he can DIY gas in his own home, without being registered.

Manufacturing and factory regs are different.

No I didn't, read the GSIUR. I said you need to be competent, and holding an acs is one way to prove it. I said you don't need to be registered with gassafe.

I do not condone joe bloggs doing gas work and neither does any of the forums, and if you read enough you'll see we don't give DIY gas advice.

No it isn't correct.

We started off with you saying you had to register with gassafe at a cost of £400.00. I said you can diy gas if you are competent without being registered. Gassafe and GSIUR agrees with me.

You have to be competent, but you don't have to prove it.

The law does not define competence, so there is no way of proving it. In particular, ACS is not proof of competence. The law could have said that you have to have ACS but it does not. It only says "competence".

A DIYer could be competent to connect a gas cooker but not to replace a boiler. You can't cover that sort of competence with ACS.

Someone who has ACS can still be incompetent. If he f'ks up, he can be done for incompetence even though he has ACS.

The purpose of ACS is so you can join Gassafe. That's all.
