I've got an old headlight unit from my Astra that I need to get rid of because the tip won't take it. What do I do with it? As a last resort I was going to put it in the black bin but I wondered if there are other options. _________________ Never be afraid to ask, that's how we learn. |

Tell the tip to sod off and chuck it in the mixed waste.
Of do what everyone else does now the councils dont take this that or anything else in the bins, and the tips dont take it either. chuck it in a hedge somewhere
this waste and recycling lark is a joke. Our recycling collection will collect car batteries, but wont take a cornflake box _________________ Why isn't the number 11 pronounced onety one? |

No idea why the tip won't take it! My oh took it with a car load of stuff and they wouldn't take it. Do tips normally take small car parts?
I'll have a go next time and see if they'll take it from me. They even help me empty my boot without asking, they're a good bunch. _________________ Never be afraid to ask, that's how we learn. |

No, they are trying see if you have anything they can flog , technically, once it's gone in the skip, it belongs to the council, so to take it from the skip, it's theft, tho it's never stoped the buggers.
Put it your bin, broken up first, once it's in the cart............tough. _________________ I'm not a roman mum, I'm a kike, a yid, a heebie, a hook-nose, I'm kosher mum, I'm a Red Sea pedestrian, and proud of it! |

I'm usually the one who takes stuff to the tip, the only thing they wouldn't take from me was a bag full of rabbit bedding from their shed as it contained droppings! That gets composted now.
When they've emptied my stuff before, it's been when I've had a car load of heavy items or a rotten shed or heavy bags of garden refuse, I usually leave the saleable stuff on the side.
My oh reckons that he's going to smash it up and put it in the black bin. _________________ Never be afraid to ask, that's how we learn. |

I have some used Ford Cortina parts, left from the days when our car was going to be recycled as a kit, but plans were changed. Anybody interested, or can find a new owner for them. PM me if you are, I'll tell you what there is. _________________ I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.

I had a result today regarding the headlight unit that had been rolling around the car boot for the last few weeks. I took an old sofa up to the tip and innocently asked whereI should leave the old headlight. I left it by the waste metal skip and went home, a very happy bunny! _________________ Never be afraid to ask, that's how we learn. |

they cannot refuse to take it if it is domestic waste and not foodstuff (foodstuff is rejected due to potential infestiations happening) - I do wonder about these 'operators' sometimes.
I used to love crawling around the scrapyards taking handy bits off cars - apaprently they all get stripped down when they arrive nowadays and you just ask for the bit you want - no fun in that _________________ I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"

Our local tip has had a face lift, painted road markings and lots of signs posts outside the skips! Very smart! Better still, no nails to puncture the tyres. It used to cost us the price of a new tyre every trip to the tip! _________________ Never be afraid to ask, that's how we learn. |
