Your good advice appreciated again!

I have 5 x 50W flush lights on a 400w dimmer switch and have had to replace the same transformer 3 times in last month.

Original was Kingsway and replaced by Tamlite 20-60VA that only lasted 1 week. Replacement also lasted a week despite salesman at CEF confirming a "reliable make".

Do I keep returning them or try a new brand?

What about looking for another problem within the lighting cicuit or dimmer?

lol if the man at CEF says they are ok this is secret code for they are a pile of old rubbish. CEF are a noted 'electrical wholesaler' for being the pits. I went there once, as a professional, and never went again full of waffle and always trying to over-charge.

Get some decent trannies from the likes of Newey & Eyre (Rexel Senate). NOT Screwfix, B&Q, Wickes, Homebase, CEF or any of the 'sheds' and make sure that they are dimmable.

Doubt that it is anything else, a soft-start dimmer sometimes helps.

gotta fully agree with that IDBI :thumbright:

CEF... complete joke if you ask me. i too used them once, they also tried to charge me double what the price should be and said "the more you use us the more discount we will give you" to which i replied "wrong remarks, the more you try to rip me off to start with when you can offer me a proper price, the less are the chances i will ever come back".

between the two comments, mine was the actual correct one, i never went back.

oh, the other name for "Tamlite" is "cr4p"

CEF own brand products are to be avoided completely.

CEF is the only major wholesaler we dont use and wont use ever!!!!!

About threes ago I had no choice but to go to CEF (I was a long way from home).

Asked for 12 dimmable trannies, bloke comes back with 12 trannies and tells me that will £95.00 please. Told him to shove them back on the shelf. He says "Oh hang on a moment I will just check" Comes back about 5 minutes later and says "That'll be £34.80 please". Yeah sure thing, and that is not the fisrt time I have been treated like that at CEF I think they assume everyone is a DIY'er. Tossers.
