I'm replacing my bathroom and I need to replace the bottom half of the wall tiles. I very carefully took the tiles off but the plasterboard wall that runs along the bath (and shower) has some nicks in it - and in one place you can see the string weave poking through.
Can I tile straight on to ths? do I need to waterproof it afterwards? or before? Do I need to use a special water proof grout?
My brother is brilliant at tiling - but doesn't know the professional stuff like this. Please help!

If it was me I would fill any larger holes with bonding plaster and then skim the whole lot with multifinish. I would then tank the Shower area with Bal WP1 Takning kit.
I've never really bothered tanking Baths unless it's got a shower over it.
Tile adhesive and grout depends on the size and material of the tiles. |

Brilliant. Thanks for that.
The holes/nicks are really small - just where the chisel got away from me. As the rest of the wall is in quite good order, can I use the tanking kit on the bonding plaster and the rest of the old plasterboard without skimming?
The tiles are the standard white 15 x 15cm, so will i need anything special for them? _________________ Desperately needs advice! |

I would skim it, it doesn't have to be a perfect skim as it's getting tiled.
As the tiles are very small i would just go for a ready mixed adhesive, Bal White Star or Bal grip is a good choice, Bal microflex wall grout |
