Bloody quick

Have Firefox and thunderbird up and running so emails are working. :thumbleft:

The wireless network is next, may have a can of Fosters and a bite to eat first.

Hate the keyboard, got use to the laptops I fear. ::b

I want a digital keyboard assuming you can get them.

Going to see if I can connect the laptop with a usb cable later.

John,
I split the thread so that if you get any problems (you shouldn't) you can run them in a clean thread.

There isn't a spell checker built into Win7. They're part of the programs. What program do you need a spell checker for?

What's the difference between usb 2 and the new usb 3, seems to work in either.

What's "sata" for.

Should there be an office program in 7 Pro, word, excel etc, or what do you guys use.

Serial ATA (SATA or Serial Advanced Technology Attachment) is a computer bus interface for connecting host bus adapters to mass storage devices such as hard disk drives and optical drives. Serial ATA was designed to replace the older ATA (AT Attachment) standard (also known as EIDE), offering several advantages over the older parallel ATA (PATA) interface: reduced cable-bulk and cost (7 conductors versus 40), native hot swapping, faster data transfer through higher signalling rates, and more efficient transfer through an (optional) I/O queuing protocol.

How about the other questions.

On the old one at the moment wine~o, need to figure the easiest way of transferring the data from the laptop over, could probably plug the HD in my remote HD.

Also need to sort work, excel etc.

:dunno: Think windows 7 gives you something called "Easy transfer"..should run on first start up with a question like "Is this your new computer"?....you can use this to import/export files....

Get the appropriate version of Easy Transfer for your OLD version of Windows from

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... y-transfer

Install it on you laptop then follow the instructions in the links at the bottom of that page. Simple and Easy.

You can do it, Scruff.

In Win 7 you should find the Easy Transfer under Start -> Accessories -> System tools. . . .
or just click Start button and type 'easy transfer in the search box just above the Start button where it says 'search progs and files'
It will show Windows Easy Transfer in the Programs search results, just click it to open it. But install the easy transfer on your laptop first and then watch the video in that link to show you how easy it is to do.

Thanks again,

Got to find something to open the files and folders first.

Adobe will be good for the pdf.

May see if it will take office 2000.

Use Foxit Reader for your PDFs.

Office 2000 is compatible with Windows 7 BUT Outlook 2000 will not work on Win 7.
If you have Office 2000 on a disc then install it to use but why not get Thunderbird v5

You should be able to export your Contacts from Outlook to a USB stick then import to the new PC.
