Two "dangerous" psychiatric patients have escaped from a secure hospital.

A manhunt was launched after Terry Powell, 35, from Cornwall, and Jason Lord, 23, from Devon, broke out of Langdon Hospital in Dawlish, Devon, at 11pm on Tuesday.

Devon and Cornwall Police warned the public not to approach the men, who were detained under the Mental Health Act, and to call 999 immediately if they spot them.

Lord was detained indefinitely in August last year after he was caught on CCTV trying to stab a police officer in the neck.

He pulled the knife from the waistband of his trousers during a search at a police station before PC Jon Croft grabbed his hand and two colleagues disarmed him.

Lord admitted attempted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and two charges of carrying an offensive weapon.

He is described as 5ft 7in, stocky, with brown cropped short hair and blue eyes, wearing a white tracksuit.

Powell is 5ft 9in, of medium build, with dark short brown hair, green eyes, and a tattoo on his right cheek.

He also has a small dot inked under his left eye and a crescent shape under his right eye.

He has a piercing over his left eye, a fair complexion and was wearing black trousers and a dark coloured shirt.

Police are working with staff from the hospital to try to find the men, who they described as "a potential danger to the public".

There are so many UHM members in Devon, thought I'd warn them.

I heard that they broke out, ran off, raped two women in a launderette and were recaptured. The newspaper headline was Nuts, bolt, screw washers, captive nuts
