Hey everyone,

I have a bit of a problem, i have taken a picture of what i believe is damp chipboard? ( no idea about diy stuff) I dont know if it is damp or from the vinyl flooring

Anyway its in the kitchen and 3 layers of vinyl have been laid over chipboard then wooden floors. The wall in my living room also has crumbling paint coming away at the bottom.

And to top it off i am met every morning with slug trails ( there must be millions of them i swear) and then the disgusting part, i have yellow mushrooms growing.

I think it is damp but my landlord sent a surveyor around and all they did was seal the vinyl to the skirting board. I am alittle concerned about the mushrooms because i have a young child, If anyone could help it would be great.

Sorry about the quality of the pictures, i am not very technical :dunno:

Hi Rockchick,

You have a small child and mushrooms growing???? Get straight on to Environmental Health at your local council! Landlord should rip up all the layers of vinyl (which is harbouring damp), dry the area out with dehumidifiers, then replace any damp timbers and then relay vinyl. Small children, and yourself can get quite nasty diseases from fungal spores!

Hi thank you for the reply,

A surveyor is coming this week at some point to have a look, i have enclosed some more pictures. Do you think it could be raising damp?
The bottom of the wall is just crumbling away.

Kind regards

Kelly

Not sure if the damp proof course has failed, or it's a shoddy extension. Looks like LAC (Liquid Ashpeltic Compound) painted up the walls, could be the reason why the paint has cracked and not necessarily damp. Although there is obvious ingress of damp on the other wall, hence the green mould.

TBH Rockchic, the source and type of damp are really no concern to you and are that of your Landlord's, all you need is it to be sorted out.

The surveyor should take damp test meter readings internally and externally and have a good look outside, just drop into the conversation that Environmental Health are also popping round, that should chivvy your Landlord along.

Good luck, let us know what happens!
