|
|

This is a bit like Hoovies question - I should know but I don't...
And it's totally theorhetical...
If I want to copy a film DVD that on a dual layer DVD, will it fit on a 4.7gb DVD
I was under the impression that dual layer disks have more capacity - in the region of 8gb
So it won't fit will it...
But I've looked and can only see 4.7gb versions of DVD-R+R etc for sale...
Am I being more of an ass than usual?

Just seen the PC shrink thread Doh..!
But don't want to compress stuff I'd rather copy exactly as is.
So can I buy dual layer blanks? _________________ Nothing you do is a waste of time - especially if it can be used as a bad example by others... |

You need a Dual Layer capable DVD-Writer of course
And those blanks are significantly more expensive then the basic 4.7GB (sometimes more then the film you may want to make a backup of!)
I use the DVD Shrink and the results look fine (to me, anyway) _________________ I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"

I have looked for these before, Boom - and they were a similar price, sadly.
Slugster is loaded anyway - he won't mind _________________ I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"

kin hell 19 quid for 5
look here
http://svp.co.uk/category/double_layer
or
http://www.burn-media.co.uk/DVD+R9-Double-Layer-c-401.html
another fiver on top delivery but thats for either 1 pack of dvds or 50
as Hoovie has said though make sure your writer can do em
most films /dvds nowadays are done on a dual layer (supposed to cut down on piracy due to expense of blanks) but you will find that the film itself will fit on a single layer ,they just pad it out with extra`s /menu`s etc
so you can actually use dvdshrink and just get the film ,thus losing none of the original quality |

They are great prices there! Good find, Foggy
I was looking at them myself before to backup Ghost images and Virtual PC images (not DVDs honest ) and gave up when I saw the prices _________________ I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
