On DVD Shrink .....

I would check your CPU usage - Or maybe your RW is on its way out. lots of reasons really - check your RAM and make sure AVirus is off during the process.

I have been using it for quite a while now and it works on most DVDS fine, but had a problem today.

On one PC, it came up with an encyption error on two DVDs that is not usually encypted- but when I tried the same operation on my regular laptop, it worked fine.

Any ideas?

Wood Magnet - one word of caution

DVDShrink is definately legitimately free! HOWEVER... there are some wide-boys on the internet who have renamed it DVDShrink 2008 and 2007 and other type stuff and are charging cussing

Just do a search for DVD Shrink and find the version 3.2.0.15 - that is a good version Thumbright

I'll try again a bit later when the PC isn't so 'active'

I should come clean and say I did this on my PC PVR which was recording two TV programs and a internet radio station at the time was trying to rip the DVD Embarassed Laughing

Selling the laptop, so need to make sure I have another place to Shrink the DVDs Thumbright

Hoovie
the link i put up is the offical site so thats ok

re your problems ..is it an encryption error or just a read error ?

if its a read error its either down to a dirty disc (no not a porn one Rolling Eyes ) or your writer is struggling to read it ok ,with it working ok on laptop would suggest your writer is struggling to read

Yohanson ..
why would you want to turn your AV off ? dont understand that bit scratch
welcome by the way Thumbright welcome

the message was of an encryption variety, but most s/w in general often give false errors.

The DVD-RW on the PC has been a bit problematical over the years so it could be that, or just simply overloaded with action at that time.
I put the DVD in the laptop about an hour later and no problems.

Gonna try another one now while the PC is idle- I will report back salute

Cheers Foggy,

Getting another PC from ebay in next day or so, so will see what that that has in it, then buy my bits for it (more ram, maybe nice big screen - depens how much the laptop fetches Thumbright ), so I will check out the Pioneer drives then Wink

Tried ANOTHER laptop - DVDShrink was fine. went back to PVR PC and did it - error message is 'Failed to read file "W:\" ' (W: is my DVD) - Data Error (CRC)

So it 99% def is my shagged drive Bang Head

CRC is Cyclic Redundancy Check, irt can't read the disk properly.

Have you tried uninstalling it and rebooting?

See if you can get updated firmware for it. Nothing to lose as it's probbaly knackered anyway.

If it still doesn't work, you can get Dual Layer 20X DVD-RW with Lightscribe for around £25.

I totally rebuilt this system about a week ago (went from XP Pro with Beyond TV to MCE 2005) and it was never been 100% reliable before or after - should have remembered really Embarassed

I think it is time for a new drive - might try a firmware upgrade though - as you say, nothing to lose Laughing
