Hello,
When I moved into my house the people who lived here before took the ceiling light from the upstairs bedroom leaving just the wires. I've now bought a Diablo 3 light spoltlight unit from B&Q but I'm having problems connecting it and don't want to burn the house down. At the ceiling end it has two grey cables each housing a red wire, a black wire and an earth wire, both the earth wires are connected together but the other wires are seperate. wrapped around one of the main grey cables is some red tape. At the light switch on the wall, there is a red wire connected to the bottom terminal, a black wire with red tape around it connected to the top terminal and an earth wire connected to the wall box. The new light unit has a terminal block with four terminals marked N-Neutral, Earth, L-switched live and the fourth is marked "provided for loop termination if necessary". I have tried a few combinations of wires but the light either stays on permanently or trips the trip switch. If anyone could give me some advice as to what wire connects to what terminal I would be really grateful as I don't want to burn the house down, they also nicked the lounge ceiling rose but that only had three wires and was easy to connect back up.
Many Thanks

I take it you don't have a multi-meter..

Stick the two reds into the loop on the fitting, either black to N, and the other black (The switched live) to live on the Fitting...and earths to earth.

Maybe you have a neutral and switch live and a permanent live coming through the ceiling, maybe the old fitting contained a fan unit or such but do check no other wires have been stuffed back into ceiling

You should quite easily be able to test which live supply is which but you will only require the switched live
this should be wired to light along with black neutral ,the permanent live should be fixed in a strip connector by its self or you can attach to loop connection in light

If you can not find a switch live ,it could be due to the switch being damaged by your incorrect wiring

Thanks for your very fast replys, I've connected the wires as you suggested ie: Stick the two reds into the loop on the fitting, either black to N, and the other black (The switched live) to live on the Fitting...and earths to earth and hey presto the light works perfectly.
Once again thanks very much for your advice.
