I Know that tis should really be in the computer section, but more people will read this here.
I have been fairly reliably advised that a new virus have been detected by Microsoft and Norton that is sent by email entitled "Life is Beautiful" in a Power Point presentation, if you open it a will say "It is too late now, life is no longer beautiful" and you will lose everything on your PC and access will have been gained to your Name, emails and passwords.
The file should be deleted without opening it.
I don't know if this 100% reliable information, but better safe than sorry!
perhaps someone can give some further information.

I never open attached files unless I've asked for them. But it's a major indictment of Microsoft's lack of regard for Windows users, that it's possible to do this damage.

I download all my emails on an MAC and transfer the ones I want, which may be 1%

I also have a non-internet computer, and transfer documents across if I need too.

I heard that it also takes your nectar, advantage and clubcard points then sets up a whole load of buy-to-let mortgages on caravans in the name of your first pet and primary school before hacking into the Pentagon mainframe using your personal ip and handing you a life sentence in guantanamo bay!!

Sorry, couldn't resist :)

It is very public spirited of you to post this warning, Doug, but it is always worth a quick look on Snopes, like AuntiePink has posted to check if it is a known hoax or not.

I have a 10 year old neice who is very sweet, but sends me about 20 virus warnings a day that she just forwards and it drives me mad :cb

Told her to have a look on Snopes before just forwarding to the 2,000 odd people on her address book - does she listen? ::b ::b ::b

Sorry everyone for any panic (by me) but the information came via an email to all employees of a large organization my daughter works for.
Well done AuntiePink :thumbright: I've now bookmarked snopes.com for future reference.

It's always worth checking there first, these things are very convincing and you'd be surprised who gets the heebie-jeebies and forwards them to everyone. I had one once from a mate who worked in IT support - obviously I didn't rib them too much...

I'm convinced that a very large proportion of viruses are from the anti-virus sellers.

How else would they all about them and have means to destroy them

Every now and again, you get a virus that causes chaos, because they didn't invent it.

Cynical or not, there's over a 100000 known viruses, and that means there's a lot of nasty people out there with nothing better to do, or we're all being taken for a ride.

 Maybe if I was 50 years younger I could appreciate it Stods, but I find internet porn offensive, invading and quite disgusting.

My grandkids were looking for some stuff for the Beavers  you can guess what happened. ::b
