can anybody tell me if it is still possible to buy a vertical flue for a vaillant 242 e combi boiler, i purchased one on e bay only to find the inner pipe was plastic and not metal, and a friend tells me he thinks it is meant for a condensing boiler and not the older conventional combi , would consider second hand, although old the boiler has only been used for about 12 months due to house standing empty for years and have had to remove the horizontal flue as it was venting on to someone elses property which i am told was illegal

I can see your dilemma, but it would be unfair of me to say just go and buy a secondhand flue and all will be well. It needs to be checked out by a Registered Gas Installer, who can obtain the correct flue, install and commission the boiler to ensure it will be safe for you (and your family) to use.

As per Mr Moggridge, and, unless you can get exemption under building regs it would be contrary to them to fit a non-condensing boiler, and I suggest no Registered Gas Installer would be prepared to 'register' the appliance with GasSafe/Building control for that reason.

ring plumb centre or pts to see if they can source you one, but you need a gas safe engineer to fit the flue and commission your boiler

There's no need to shout.
I would suggest the best person to source you the appropriate parts would be the Gas Safe Registered engineer that will be fitting it.

Having spoken to the OP via PM I'm now satisfied that he intends to get an RGI to carry out the work. Most guys will happily fit his flue but haven't got the time to source it - we know how busy (lazy) you all are I've asked him to post the exact model and GC number whatever that is so we can make sure he gets the correct flue Mod 6

Can't expect Mod 6 to do all our work for us! I am in Durham city, county Durham but as i stated to mod 6 finding somebody too do the job is not a problem as i have contacts due to being a time served joiner currently working in the industry as a construction manager its finding out wether or not the part is available as i am sure you will all know due to current economic climate most of the people who stocked older spare parts are long gone
