Every time I go away for a few days I turn the cold water off by the mains, when I return the cold water storage tank in the loft is completely empty.

All the hot water taps were turned off and I can not see any leaks any where and if there was a leak then there would be plenty of water about as the tank is very big!

Why does this happen and what can I do about it?

Help please

Thank you

Very thirsty Rodents Rolling Eyes

The obvious would be a leaking WC ballvalve if none of the taps are dripping.

Have you checked the tank doesn't supply another property as well.

Thanks thescruff for your prompt reply. I have checked the wc ballvalve and it's not that, as for sharing, well I live in a semi detached and the next door have not said anything to me about not having water. But I know that they have their own supply.

Do you think that it may be leaking under the floor boards from the central heating pipes. It is not that easy for me to check as I will have to remove the laminate flooring to get underneath the floor boards, there is no obvious signs or musty smells.

This is A BIG job, but if this is the ONLY possible solution then it will have to be done.

It shouldn't be the heating unless the coil as gone in the cylinder.

You will have to check all the hot and tank cold pipes and fittings.

Perhaps turning the mains off at night and measure how much it drops, will give you a better idea.

When you say it's not the ballvalve, over a few days it could build up and drip, whereas normal use it's ok.
