I need to clean some brickwork (house wall) that has been splashed with white paint (not by me!) - any suggestions ? I have tried brick acid, but this hasn't really helped ...

Hi Johnch,

Brick acid won't help as it only attacks/dissolves alkali which is the main component in cement. i would try nitromors and maybe a soft wire brush.
Unfortunately some paints soak into the brick and is very hard to remove without damaging the brick face.
Hope this helps.

Was the paint water or oil based?

You could try using some brick cleaner with a pressure washer?

OK - thanks very much. I'm not sure whether the paint was water or oil based (the stains were present when we moved into the house) - will try your suggestions. A couple of ignorant questions (!) - 1) what is nitromors ? 2) can you recommend a decent brick cleaner ?
Cheers - johnch

Nitromors is a paint remover, which is most commonly used to strip paint from wood etc.

I was thinking of something like this-

or perhaps this-

Hope this helps

If you're going to be using Nitromors, with a wire brush, use a full face cover, and rubber gloves, and cover the rest of yourself with old clothes. If you flick nitro on you skin when scrubing with a wire brush, you won't notice until about a minute after when it starts to burn, and I can;t imagine the damage it'll do if you get it in your eyes.

If you can't do a full face shield, do saftey goggles at the very least.
