VI,

I've never heard of him but I don't get time to read anything apart from school stuff most of the time.

I have started reading an autobiography by Martha Long called
Ma, he sold me for a few cigarettes. It's about her life as a poor, b*stard child growing up in 1950's Dublin.

Easier to post a link that explain in more detail. A harrowing read and I'm not half way through yet.
The book

If you like Rankin's Rebus novels you will love Brookmeyer.
Pretty graphic, more so than Rankin but a good bit more raw humour too..I love em
