Hi everyone,

One of my radiators (which worked fine last year) is not producing any heat at all this year. I just did a quick search online and the most common suggestion is that the Thermostatic Radiator Valve pin may be stuck or jammed. The advice seems to be to take off the valve head to reveal the pin and then (depending on the source) either apply a gentle pressure to the pin, or hit it with a hammer.

My question is: Is there anything I need to do before removing the valve head, for example switch off the boiler or drain the radiator. My concern is that I'll take off the valve head to unleash a spray of water. Is there any chance of this happening!?!

Many thanks,
John

No,the thermostatic head is just screwed onto the valve body and not connected to any water ways, just unscrew and remove,do not unscrew or loosen any nuts on valve body apart from one holding head on

great, thanks white pan man.
It may seem a silly question to people in the know, but thought it better to ask first rather than deal with the potential consequences later!

The silly questions are the ones asked after the flood, best to ask first and save a lot of grief.
