Greetings All,

I am going to fit wall uplighters, and will chase up to the ceiling. How do i get the chase up behind the coving?

Remove a section...run cable......then replace coving , most of the coving sticky is ok for filling gaps

Sometimes you can get behind it using a long masonry drill. If your coving is only shallow, such as gyproc it is much easier than deep stuff.

If your coving is like this, then you could well struggle-



But if it is gyproc like in the attached picture it is much easier and you can do this with a really long masonry bit. I have a bit that is 1 metre long and is good for this purpose, but you have to be careful of damaging the coving.

Another way is to get a piece of copper pipe or steel conduit is better, flatten the end into a cold chisel shape and then bend it to make a curved end, then after drilling as far as you can with your drill up behind the coving, just bang this tool up behind and it should help you to knock the remaining untouched plaster off. Or as UHM says , get a long drill bit and try and bend it into the chase as much as possible and then get someone to watch out for where you think its going to appear above in case of pipes , cables, or joists.You can gaurantee there will be a joist right above your new light position :grin:

I think i will do some "before and after" shots and let you know what worked best for me.
