I have a Glowworm Fuelsave Complheat boiler which I estimate is 30 years old. The boiler has a dial to indicate the water volume/pressure in the radiator system and can be topped up by a screw valve beneath the installation. There is no header tank with a ball cock valve configuration.

When we started to use the radiator system 4 weeks ago the system failed to fire up on about the second day. The dial showed a lack of water. I filled up the system and bled the radiators. The screw valve is difficult to operate and to be fair I probably put to much water in. As the boiler heated up excess water drained via the overflow.

This is the sequence of events:

Yesterday
10am boiler shows zero pressure
3:15pm pressure shows as 0.25. My wife fired up the boiler but a I turned it off
4:30pm returned home to find boiler running and pressure is 2.9 Water is slowly dripping from the over flow
6:00pm Heating is off and the pressure is 0
11pm I filled the boiler to 2.6 and emptied the bucket under the overflow. I bled the easily accessible upstairs radiators
11:45pm Pressure has fallen back to 2.4

Today
6am boiler operates (not sure for how long)
10am pressure is 0

Can anyone suggest whether this is a faulty boiler or a leak in the radiator system? Other than taking up floor boards etc is there an easy way to check?

Thanks

Almost certainly a problem with the expansion vessel.

Thanks for the response. Please explain. so there's an 'tank' (?) in the boiler itself? Where does the water go to?. Do I need to get a new expansion vessel or it that not possible?

Thanks

Check the manual and it will show you, unless you have a remote one.

Check the pre-charge pressure, or if it has water in it you'll need a new one.

There's a couple of videos here.
