This is only a thought, so it may not work. :dunno:

Open file explorer, point it to your cd drive, copy and paste tracks to a file on your laptop.

I haven't played a CD in years. I use ipods, which have mp3's much easier.

What version of Windows do you have?

If it's Win 10 then click on Start - All Apps then scroll down to 'W' where you'll find it.

Type "Media Player" into the search box. That should find it.
Otherwise any software with a "ripping" facility should do it. Search for "rip cd"

Just saying;

I tried that, nope, no media player, but I did get something called "Music maker jam" no idea what it is.

Thinking out loud, may its not on all desktops :dunno:

Just tried a video and it opens with "film and movie" (No, no idea what that is)
Just tried an mp3 (don't keep them on this pc) guess what came up, options to play it, one is windows media player :blah5: so why it doesn't come up under a search, I have no idea. :dunno:

Found on several occasions that search seems to come up with the results Windows "wants" you to have. What it thinks is "best" perhaps. Sometimes there's a button for "more results" or something similar, but I can't get mine to do that at the moment.

I don't like to use anything Microsoft that I don't have to. So I've got VLC media player on this machine. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.en-GB.html
Looks like it has an option to convert CD tracks to PC compatible files.
I don't generally play much media on the PC though.

Windows media player doesn't come pre installed on W10; just a lot of other "Apps"

@ OP, if you want media player, go to the microsoft website and find "Windows essentials for W10" It's a free download.

Then you may want to change your "default" settings so that cd's always open with media player.

Start>settings>Devices>autoplay

Or Start> type control panel in search box open then "default programmes"

And you will still not be able to play DVD's without paying M.S.
My Lenovo ideapad 100 comes with Power DVD which appears when I put one in the drive, otherwise hidden but it works well enough.

Hi there, never used itunes, the site says try it free for 3 months, not sure if that is free music in that period or once the 3 months is up you start paying a subscription or can you still use is as a way of importing your own CD's

Thanks

It's all changed since I had to re-install. Have a look at this link which may/may not work for you..

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... ember-2015

apparently it's now called a feature pack and depends on which edition of W 10 you have..
