Hi
Complete novice I hope someone can help. My computer information tells me that I have not got a CD-ROM DRIVE INSTALLED!
and yet I have a Optiarc DVD-RW AD-72405 on previous hardware information printouts. When I put a CD/DVD in it does not load and it does not show when I bring up my computer, I hope someone can make sense of what I"am attempting to explain? ::b

Sounds like the cable has dropped out of the back of the CDROM unit - open the box and ensure all connectors are properly in place.

If all the cables are correct try running this http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/en-us I've seen this problem a few times before and changing the registry upper and lower filters value usually fixes it. The link is to an automated fix.

HI. Thanks for your time. Have downloaded the automated fix you reccomended, it has sorted some problems but it cannot detect the CD/DVD DRIVE and the problem still exists.
I can put a disk in the tray and it takes it in and light flashes but does not load and does not register when I click on my computer? The tray comes in and out no problem ::b

The power and the data cables are probably separate, so if you have power it will open/shut and take a disc, but no data and it will not read it. Take the side off and make sure the data cable is fully pushed in, it is a large black connector on a ribbon cable, or and IDE connection.

You can see a pic of what i am talking about [http://bit.ly/wdMMeJ]HERE[/url]

OK there are obviously some issues with your PC, so be totally honest and tell us when the problems started and what you did before the problems started, i assume this all worked up to a point and then stopped working.

Things to think about are new software installed, new hardware added, any updates you have applied, have you moved the PC have you disconnected any cables and reconnected, and lastly what make and model is the PC?

Just done a quick search for the delivery manager service and found this which you may want to take a look at http://www.pcdoctor-guide.com/wordpress/?p=2452

With the sound issue, can you hear all the other sounds on your PC and has sound ever worked from the CD-ROM? Check all the volume settings in the application and from Control Panel to make sure nothing's turned down low or muted. Do you have an older CD-ROM drive with a sound cable? See here for details http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000213.htm
