Hi Guys,
some of you probably know about this already, but just in case, there is a very nice cashback site called quidco www.quidco.com
Basically, they work as an affiliate site for loads of proper on-line shopping sites - and by proper, I mean the ones you and I REALLY use, not some weird sh*t sites.
Way it works is you click to website you want via quidco.com and shop like normal and you get a month to 3 months later an agreed amount back.
Quidco make their money probably by taking a percentage, but it NEVER comes from you e.g. if a shop says they will give a quidco member 10% off their bill as cashback, YOU get 10% back. It isn't taken off the bill you pay, but is put on your quidco account and once quidco has recieved the money from that company, they pay it to you - end of every month is their payment schedule.
No upfront membership fees at all - they take £5 off the cashback as a one off once a year for admin costs, but only if you got £5 or more cashback so if you have no cashback, you pay nothing
Best to go to the website and have a butchers - be better explained there.
I joined end of Jan this year and so far have got just over £600 back as cash.
Give you some examples of my cashbacks ...
Mrs Hoovie needed car insurance - used confused to check best prices, and then looked on quidco and found the Prudential were offering £120 cashback. The Pru were £40 more then best deal confused could find, so bought Pru insurance via Quidco link - overall saving there £80
Household insurance - LloydsTSB offering £120 cashback and their policy was competative already - saved £120 - tip: split buildings and contents and get 2 x £120 back!
Got a Amex Red card - didn't really need one, but by getting one, they gave me £35 cash - Egg card gave me £30 cash -neither cost me anything and have no fees
moving to DIY land .... I was going to get my bath from Plumbworld, checked quidco to see if member and they were offering 5% cashback - so bought via quidco link - £35 due as cashback end of this month
Other notable retailers I got cashback from - eBay - not a lot (35% off LISTING fee, but every little helps), John Lewis - %age varies, but between 3% and 9% - loads more there.
Now I am not getting anything from Quidco to recommend them, just wanted to pass on what I think is a great way to save when you are gonna spend anyway - especially the insurance ones!!
Like all things, if the price minus cashback is still more then another non-quidco retailer, then not worth it for that buy, but when the figures DO stack up, why not!!
Cheers,
Hoovie _________________ I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"

Well, all I can say is the weather in Nigeria is probably a lot better then the weather here in the UK - p*ssing down here.
I can understand how you guys think it is probably a scam - I was doubtful too when I found the info on the MSE website back in Jan, butI gave it a go, and worked for me great.
Best suggestion I can give you is - if you don't believe it, just don't go there - and if you don't believe me, then that is up to you, not much I can do about that - just wanted to pass on a useful tip
Check out the link UHM put on there - I guess I should have just posted that myself originally (cheers, UHM) , but thought I would add in my own experience of how it has worked for me. _________________ I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"

ok for your amounts to work they must have been avalable any way as in if you shop around you would get say 550 of your £600 saving anyway [prorata]
you save £240 on your house and contents insurance!!!
i pay £22 06 per month or £244.60 per year inc £7 for instalments
how much was your insurance and what was the cover so i can compare and work out like for like
i am not disputing what you say Hoovie as savings are there i just think the value is a lot less than it seems when taken in connection with possible savings with prudent shopping  _________________ we are all ------------------still learning |

And you are dead right - 5% or 10% cashback on an overpriced product is no bargain!
I do always shop around - as a pertinant example for this website, SFX tends to be best price for many things DIY, and there is another internet shop that offers quidco cashback on the same stuff SFX sells - but their prices are not as good as SFX - guess where I go
They must be around anyway? you know, I cannot for the life of me work out how some of these offers of cashback can make financial sense for the companies, but that is not my problem - I'll take the savings, thanks very much
My House Insurance - Nationwide wanted £500 or something - way too much. I shopped around using confused.com (please no one start with confused is a scam!!) and found a number of respected providers offering me proper cover at a reasonable price. Then I go to quidco, see if any of those I would be happy to go with are doing cashback there - found LLoyds TSB - who wanted £350 for building and contents - with quidco would pay £130 cashback ( I didn't twig the 2 x £120 at that time - new to cashback sites) - end result - cover for £220 -and it is not compromised cover, but the cover that would have cost someone who did not use the quidco affiliate link £350 and someone who just blindly renewed from previous year £500 odd no doubt
Car Insurance - again using confused to get prices for deals, then see which are offering cashback on quidco - go with the Prudential and end up with fully comp protected no claims insurance with business use and courtesy car for grand total of £110.
In this case, the Pru was actually £40 more then the very best deal confused came up with, but the cashback of £130 (yes, it happens to be same amount as LloydsTSB!!) meant saved £90 from the very best price
[rant]
Now to be honest, I don't mind if people don't believe it and stay away, or if they want to try it out but find it doesn't suit - but what does really F**k me off is the comments about something being a scam and personal comments when those people cannot be arsed to spend 10 seconds typing "quidco" into google - where they will see links talking about it on MoneySaving Expert - which is maybe one of the most respected money saving websites in the UK.
If I see a post that I do not believe or I think is a scam, then I will have a little browse first before slagging off the poster just in case I do not know what the f**k I am talking about

Well Quidco get the thumbs up from me as I've saved £130 on my car insurance by using the site.
The cheapest quote I had after shopping around quite a few insurance companies was £156 (yes I'm old & so is the car )
Prudential insurance are giving cash back of £130 for a policy took out with them through Quidco.....so I tried a quote from them....fully expecting the quote to be a lot more than my £156.
To my surprise the Prudential's quote was £152
So £152 - £130 cash back = £22 ....for a year’s car insurance: grin:
So yes I totaly recommend Quidco |
