got stung with this one years ago.
If you rent a car anywhere in the world, always check the car inside and out, and get them to note any damage down, and i mean anything. Look for scuffed wheel covers, anything on the paintwork or plastics, and get them to note if people have scuffed the plastics inside with their shoes. (friend of mine got done for scuffs on the plastic in front of passanger seat, where people put their feet up)
The main one they get you on is scuffed wheel covers. For me, they tried to charge this to me 2 months after a rental. Got it back after a fight.
This has all came up again, due to budget in new zealand taking £40 off my card on the 12th aug for a rental 9 months ago!! After lots of emails they came back with the old scuffed wheel trims story.
Still awaiting my refund........... _________________ Go on, adopt a greyhound http://www.dgrescue.org.uk/ .......................................................................... |

have a look at
www.insurance4carhire.co.uk
Its backed by the times newspaper, who are running a campain to stop rental companys being robbing barstuards. Its great to see their faces when you say you dont need any extra insurance.
Problem is they are having to 'find' more to charge, so they make their targets _________________ Go on, adopt a greyhound http://www.dgrescue.org.uk/ .......................................................................... |

just be very picky (pedantic could be another way of putting it) and go back and get them to mark everything down.
Another wee trick they do is to mark all the damage you list on the wrong slip of paper, making it look like you have returned the car with this damage, as opposed to getting it like that.
check for damage to anything under the car, and check the tyres for chunks out the walls. _________________ Go on, adopt a greyhound http://www.dgrescue.org.uk/ .......................................................................... |

you just have to accept its going to be another 1/2 hr in most cases before you drive off.
They really are taking the P now, as seen in all the articles in the times. _________________ Go on, adopt a greyhound http://www.dgrescue.org.uk/ .......................................................................... |

just had the money refunded to my card
bet you they charge this to everyone who has rented the car, and probably 80% or so dont query it. A nice little earner _________________ Go on, adopt a greyhound http://www.dgrescue.org.uk/ .......................................................................... |

I take my Digital camera with me, I recently hired a Luton tail lift van. (Was moving house).
While the guy was going around checking the van for damage and filling in his paperwork I took photographs and showed them to him on the camera, this prompted him to record a few extra areas that he had "overlooked".
Pictures speak a thousand words and the rental company won't argue with someone organised enough to take photographs. _________________ Don't buy a dwarf with learning difficulties,
