Hello one and all,

If anyone has the necessary information to help with this I would be very grateful....

The machine was working perfectly well during a dry cycle when suddenly the drum speed increased to maximum during the dry cycle... which is abnormal.

I then spent some time going through various programmes to ascertain if it was a dry only issue or a general issue & found that it is a general issue with motor speed control. Basically, when the motor gets the signal to turn, it simply jumps straight to max spin.

The machine has a fault code of 7 flashes - which I am led to believe is a self diagnostic for "motor problem".

I don't think it's a motor problem - but a speed control issue.

I've had the main pcb out & there's no (obvious) water ingress or burned out components there. There doesn't appear to be a mini pcb on the motor and so I'm led to beleive I need a new main pcb.... I didn't want to guess as they are £80 ish and I don't have a sale or return option.

Does anyone have any knowledge that would help me out here? I'm unemployed and looking after my kiddies - and it's December - so money's tight .... argghhhhh.... bad timing!

Stu :)

:welcomeuhm:

all most of us can do is guess. unfortunately electricians do the wiring side not appliances, they are a completely different job and as far as i am aware, a semi-skilled trade classed as "an appliance repair electrician" although my 1st thought was for the pcb before i finished reading your post.

Hi Rich,

Many thanks for your reply. AND I LOVE YOUR AVI :)

I took the motor off - and at the rear end there is a magnetic pick up which was hanging down!

This has a magnetic coil that was originally screwed into the end of the motor armature (it had come undone and unscrewed all the way out and with use, the pick up "shroud" had flopped off along with the magnetic coil stuck to the inside).

I was 100% convinced it was a fix... until I rebuilt and tried it - it was now better - but not right.

The motor turns as if "pulsing" & the resultant drum movement is quick successions of 200 or 300msec bursts of power in one direction and then the same in the opposite direction... so feedback on motor speed is there but it's a bit iffy.

I'm now wondering if:

a) the brushes do indeed need changing (unsure of length of new ones)
b) if there's a reset protocol after having pcbs & this speed pick up sensor diconnected.....

If anyone could help....

I alos hope this helps others who WILL have this fault with their machine at some piont and stumble across this fix-it!!!

Stu ;)

Hello again!

IT'S A FIX :)

I doubled checked my work and the magnetic pick up speed sensor on the back of the motor hadn't been pushed in hard enough.

I put my hand under the motor and felt for the pick-up and pushing it hard it clicked :)

Now a 100% fix

Good luck to anyone who has SPEED SENSOR problems with their washing machine!

:)
