Laughing I'll actually be putting a miniature bottle of Monkey Shoulder in the end of the wall before I seal it up. Traditionally, the dykers used to have a dram to celebrate the end of a wall and they would put the empty bottle into the wall. I always put a bottle in the wall when I repair one or build a decent sized stone wall. As this wall has some real stone in it I've decided to stick a bottle in it too.

I also stick a new coin into the mortar on steps and patios that I build. Who says the Scots are all skinflints? Laughing

I bet the invoice to your customer will have an entry for "Consumables" and for "Misc: £0.02p Wink

What is Monkey Shoulder?

Are you supposed to itemise invoices? Shocked

Monkey Shoulder is a Whisky. It's a blend of Speyside malts. I got given over 100 miniatures of whisky, rum & cognac as a tip from a customer a few years ago.

Freezing fog has put a stop to everything on this project and it looks like we're in for a few days of inaction before the temperatures will allow any further progress. Crying

Here's how it's looking now ...

Laughing It does look rather daunting from down the hill. It will look less of a monstrosity when it is rendered, the ground level is brought up again with soil and fruit trees are planted against it.

The weather has been shockingly cold. We haven't had a whole day above freezing point for 10 days so I haven't done much in the way of building. The paving has arrived and I've been shifting stone and rubble around in preparation for the long awaited thaw.

Laughing That would be rather cool, Jim. There's an existing pond and waterfall around the back which I'm due to renovate next year and I've been asked to build a new pond in the lawn next to this project in the near future too.

Judging by the rain that's banging against my window right now, there may be a few water features when I get there tomorrow morning. Shocked

I nearly had whole day without rain today. Smile Better still, the forecast for the next few days is fairly good so i should be able to make some serious progress now. Here are some pics of the state of play at the end of today's shift. I hope you're playing along at home.
