Laughing The prize was a box of chocolates but I ate them last night, sorry.

Is that your work on display in that photo? Tell me more about that table please. It looks stunning.

Some days my job is just too much fun. Give me a sledgehammer and an old wall and I can keep myself happy for hours on end. Smile

I like those kind of jobs Thumbright

I did one last July and it chucked it down every time I got the cement mixer out Bang Head

Can't find a pic of the wall I knocked down, but this is it rebuilt-

Ouch! The dreaded 9" blocks! Not the easiest introduction to wall building, Chez. Laughing Good work for your first laying though thumbleft

did you render the wall afterwards or was that the finish?

That was my first attempt at bricklaying.

I go to the gym quite often, but the weight of those things held at weird angles gave me some kind of tendon damage, but it has gone now thankfully.

I did not render it as the chavs round here would just use it as a canvas around here Wink

It has been painted on the inside with masonry paint.

After that fun bout of demolition, I'm starting to build back up the way again. I'm using natural sandstone blocks that have been tumbled to soften the edges to form a wrap-around on the end of the wall. These pillars will be the gateposts and will be fitted with a wooden door.

It's freezing up here Crying I've hit a snag or two in the past week. Crying Crying When I dug down to find the bottom of the existing wall I uncovered a series of roguish building works which showed that the terrace had been built up at some stage. The original steps had been lifted and the foundations cut. This had led to subsidence because the whole lot had been backfilled with loose topsoil. Rolling Eyes

I've had to excavate between the two walls to a depth of 3 feet to find solid ground to lay the new foundations. This wasn't in my plans.

The cold weather means I haven't done much actual building work so I've been busying myself with boring stuff like drains and crushing bricks for backfill.

Here's a pic of my bum and that hole.
