I've bought the tents, the self-inflating camping mats and now need to get sleeping bags. I'm not sure what to look for in a sleeping bag description and need help from the camping members on here.
I've seen 2 season bags, occasionally tog rated bags and filling gsm ratings on bags. I don't want to be cold but I don't want to swelter either.
I'm after 4 mummy sleeping bags to be used in the Summer mainly but I'm sure that we'll be doing more camping around late Spring early autumn as time goes on.
I'd be grateful if someone who camps could let me know what they use at this time of year. :thumbright:

If you need the ability to go from late spring to Autumn I'd go for 3 season bags and make sure they have a full length zip so you don't overheat on warmer nights.

You can also get some sleeping bags with either left or right handed zips, so if you and the OH want to be able to zip two mummy bags together you'll want two of the same bag, one left zip and one right.

Inky Pete,

Thanks for that, I'll be looking for left and right zipped bags now. :thumbright: I've never used a sleeping bag, so I'm slightly worried about feeling "hemmed in".

If you're just in a mummy bag on your own you'll find that the bag moves with you as you roll over etc. so it's not a problem unless (like my OH) you tend to sleep in the "starfish" position.

Two bags zipped together is quite a bit more restrictive, you can't move around too much without disturbing your partner and that might not suit you.

There'd be more room to wriggle in two square bags zipped together, and it is also possible to get double sized bags.

Pete,

Having read that I think I'll stick to my own bag!! I suppose that linked bags are good for women who need their feet warming by their husbands in the middle of the night. :thumbright:

If you do go for mummy bags get a mixture of left and rights, then you can try them both linked and seperate.
