Could be coming off your old incoming mains pipe if it's in lead or galvanized steel. Particles can get dislodged. :-)

Turn your inside stopcock off, can you here sea shell noises if you stick a screwdriver on the pipe and the blunt end in your ear.

Thanks thescruff, happy to try that out but need a bit more explanation. :)

Is it simply turning the stop cock off and using the screw driver to listen to any leakages that might be happening between the stop cock and the mains entry point. I guess you are expecting the leak to make that sea shell sound?

just put the blunt end in you ear and the other end on the stopcock or pipe.

If there's a leak you'll hear it.

Alternatively if you have a water meter, see whether it's still going round with the inside stopcock turned off.

Thanks, just tried that and didn't hear anything that resembles a leakage. And unfortunately I don't have a water meter to the property either.

it will sound like a sea shell a sort of Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sound
