My friend fell over and badly broke both wrists yesterday. I wondered if anyone on here has done it.

that is very unfortunate

only significant thing I broke (apart from countlress womens hearts when I married   ) is my leg - in plaster from toes to thigh, and my knee was never the same after being encased for 3 months :cb .

Make sure they follow the physio's advice completely - don't want non-functioning wrists

I wondered how debilitating a broken wrist is, I mean do you have to have everything done for you? I've never known anyone do that! Poor girl just fell over and is probably going to have to get plates and screws put in to sort it out.

I would imagine her wrists will be immobilised at least for a short time!

no weight put on them, not even a cup of tea carried, etc. prob can't even wash herself!! - that is what I would assume - follow the docs advice :thumbright:

Thats a shame about your friend. Hope she makes a speedy recovery.

With regards to the fractures. I think it really all depends on what type it is.

Certain fractures can take up to 24 weeks to heal especially ones that require surgery.

My Mum broke her wrist when she was 50 years old, It was quite a complicated break and she had to have bone grafts to put it right. But she suffered with it till the day she died aged 80!

Thanks Weegie,

I just feel so sorry for her, all she did was fall over and try to save herself. I hope her recovery goes smoothly too.

With both hands out of action, intimate and personal tasks have to be done by others, you find out who your real friends are.

Crikey, woman! I read this and thought you'd broken yours.

Then immediately wondered what you'd built to enable you to type whilst temporarily disabled

I looked at Youtube and there are videos of kids actually breaking their wrists on skateboards and doing arm wrestling. It's one of the more common injuries apparently, especially amongst cyclists.
