as with GTWIL:- I'v done it with the help of pipe pliers (swan neck) on a Ford Mondeo and VW Passat; have to be carefull not to damage the piston gaiter. Seem to recall that one of them had to be turned in the opposite direction to retract it but I could be wrong; for sure if it is very stiff could be the piston / thread has corroded due to being at full extension (pad on metal); you would be wise to look ahead for an in-stock exchange deal.
