OK, then. Is there anyone else out there with big, W - I - D - E plates of meat like wot I 'as? In a shoe I take a 10.5 size in a 4E width fitting. Which means that if my toes were webbed I'd be able to swim really fast....... But they aren't, so I can't, so I have to work as a carpenter and joiner. Which gets us back to wide boots. My current ones are Sault's and are actually a size 11 2E, the widest I could find - and they are coming to the end of their natural spam. So, can anyone help me? Or do I need to get myself shod. like a horse?

I hate work boots and refuse to wear them. I can't have steel toe caps because I dropped a work top on my foot years ago and the cap plays havoc with my big toe.

If you want steel toe caps I can't help; I suffer the same problems myself and have given up with steels, however if you want some comfortable walking boots these ones below were specifically designed for wide feet with a lot of input from a local guy who only sells boots (Barkers of Ringwood). My feet are only a 7.5 and these are the first boots I've ever worn which are smaller than a 9.

Well, this is the third time in about 18 months that I've gone on this search. To be honest I've got thoroughly fed up with the standard British response of, "sorry, mate, there's no call for that" - another risable excuse for incompetence and complete disinterest in both the job and the customer. I did eventually find two very helpful firms who specialise in this sort of thing and go up to 6E width - and who are willing to explain the pros and cons of what they sell. Granted extra wide fittings aren't cheap, but orthopedic surgery costs more and that's the direction I was going in according to a chiropodist (who incidentally didn't have a clue about where to get specialist boots except having them made by a firm in Geordie land at a cool £450 a pair).

For reference by any further people needing them the first firm is Wide Fit Shoes and they do a good range of 2E and 3E wide fitting boots, wide fitting trainers and safety shoes off the shelf and provide a useful printable [http://bit.ly/r3qmS4]fitting guide for British shoes[/url] from which I worked out that I've been wearing the wrong size shoes for years! (apparently about 50% of the population do). The other supplier, Severnside Safety Supplies, imports Steitz Secura safety footwear from Germany in 4 width fittings and it's the Steitz boots that I've gone for having talked today with a Seimens site fitter/engineer who praised them and also told me that his current site boots had just passed their second birthday - all on site work. For comparison I currently manage 15 to 18 months out of cheaper boots; the last pair of Panoply Saults cost me £45. The Steitz boots I've ordered are Goretex but as they are made to order delivery will be in 4 to 6 weeks. I will report back when they arrive and I've had the chance to break them in

I've deleted some off topic posts and locked the thread as it had a happy conclusion. Glad you found what you wanted.
