the pipe from the header tank was way above the water line so the it MUST of been sucking air into the system!!! bit of brute force and ignorance and fingers crossed it's sorted

The vent pipe is meant to be above the water line. :scratch:

If you can bend the pipe back without breaking it, then do so...the whole sucking air thing (If it is) would be caused by a blockage in the feed pipe (Probably) . The Scruff will tell you how to test for it with a glass of water held over the end of the expansion pipe (I Can't remember whether you try It from system cold, then switch on the heating, or System hot switch off the heating...
