Just tiled my bathroom (up to ceiling) and carefully worked out where to start and finish to eliminate slivers of tiles, etc.

What I didn't realise until too late was the ceiling sloped Bang Head - so now I have a nice tight line on one wall to the ceiling and a gap of around 25mm on the opposite wall to the ceiling as I used a spirt level to fix the supporting batten - and on the walls that connect these two, the gap from top of tile to ceiling obviously starts to increase - 3mm to 25 mm over around 1.4 Metre length.

Any suggestions about how to deal with this?

I have thought about listellos about 25-30mm deep that would sit on top like a feature, following the line of the ceiling but have not seen any I like - and the price of some of these seem insane - like £5 for a 75mm listello!

Tiles are basic 200x200 slightly bumpy plain white ceramic tiles with a 2mm tile space.

BTW - any suggestions that involve removing tiles and redoing it will not be welcomed - that is NOT an option as I do not enjoy tiling and could not face repeating any work Crying

Thanks,

Hoovie.

I can't think of a quick fix that won't look similar if not worse than the tile (if you finished the cut).

At those prices for listello I'd be tempted to go to your local wood merchant and have him rip some 1" x 1 1/2" from 25mm to zero at the length required and board out the ceiling. with 9mm plasterboard, and finish as drywall.

Unless someone has a better idea?

Cheers!

Right .... so conclusions are basically get the ceiling level!!

I am gonna get someone in to sort out my plaster and lath artexed landing ceiling and I think I will get him to do the bathroom at the same time (got a patch of bare Plasterboard on ceiling where I took out the airing cupboard to get done anyway)

Is a 25mm gap too big to be "skimmed" (I know it is more then a skim, but you know what I mean (probably!!))?

I think I could have a go and try to persuade the wife to look at cladding the ceiling like UHM did in a bathroom - that looked pretty good.

if you have a planer just put an inch strip of wood at the high end, a couple more strips getting thinner (planer)
then just put some some cladding up. for cladding you only need rails every couple of feet.

Thanks, Panlid - This option is sounding better and better as it deals with a few things in the one solution - and I do have a planer
(I also know to keep my fingers away from rotating sharp bits (sorry, A. Wink ) - I have been using a Junior hacksaw instead on the fingers Crying )

Cheers,

Hoovie

YES.

If it fell on you, highly likely, it'll kill you!

Ahhh - you talked about Drywall (which will mean the evil of Plastering)

I will give anything a go in the house EXCEPT I try and avoid things that will be on show, such as tiling (you now know why!) and plastering (the paint is too thin to hide a non-smooth surface)

depending on direction of cladding (either following 1.4M wall or following 3.6M wall), I will be able to use battens of various thicknesses to level, or battens with varying thickness to level - either one will suit me as I have a head with various degrees of varying thickness Laughing

Just thought I would post an update on this as finally completed this job Thumbright

In the end I went for Painted T&G cladding with a Scotia Beading to hide the expansion gap.

Ceiling battened out ready for Cladding, with downlighter holes cut through old plaster in readiness for next stage (thanks to all for the advice and confirmation about shimming, batten sizes, etc Thumbright )

Cladding up (pre-painted mostly in strips and then final coat once assembled)

Ceiling Complete - at last!

Now I can start working down to the floor!
