howdi,
wonder if anyone can point me in right direction for electrical stuff.... 2.5mm t + e, 1mm t+e, back boxes, sockets, switches etc and is there a huge diff in quality in say cable at £50 for 50 metres and the same size cable at £100 for 50 metres, any general pointers would be good, will be buying quite a lot of gear over next few weeks so looking to save a few quid but get reasonable quality stuff.
thanks
spice

There is a lot of cheap imported cable which is well below standard. So buying from internet one has to be careful. But in the main most electrical whole sale outlets will have genuine cable. The retail price is never charged and the same electrical whole sale outlet will sell the same cable at different prices to different customers.
One has to shop around. The price changes according to how much you buy and how good you are at paying so no one can do it for you it's down to you.
Some will sell short lengths others only by the role. I have yet to find anyone selling Ali-tube by the length which is a pity and only want to wire fridge supply etc in Ali-tube (Means you don't need a RCD to protect cable). And it will depend where you live as well.

I found that with my wholesalers - if I just went in to buy the same thing I found different sales assistants would charge me different prices. After opening a cash account it comes up on the computer exactly what discount I get

TLC are good, I've used them several times. though it's always worth checking out Toolstation as their prices are competitive.

TLC are good, use them at work and they deliver same day usually, there is a big one down the road though
your sparky will need to size the cables accordingly :-)

TLC are good, but Electricfix (part of Screwfix) are cheaper but you need to be a registered sparky to get an account.

thanks guys, decided on tlc, now trying to decide which consumer unit, just a bog standard mid terrace house with a loft conversion( just started) hence the full rewire needed, my spark (mates rates) has literally no time at the minute he spreads himself too thin!! so he's just leaving it up to me to get what i need and he'll do bits and bats working around his job.... works out a lot cheaper than paying someone for full rewire but relys on me getting some basics right... mainly choosing the correct gear and knockin holes in walls.....
so if any o you guys can point me in a general direction for a cu, would be very grateful.
