I am leaving the Douglas Fir rafters in my roof exposed and overboarding with plaster board, tri iso 10 etc.

I have just cleaned the odd plaster and paint splash off them and am thinking that they need to be coated with something. Does anybody have any suggestions about what will give the best protection and finish?

Thanks

boarding the tops of them with plasterboard if I understand correctly.

remember if you are leaving your beams exposed they will need over specifying to comply wit fire regs

a guy I worked for who did a barn conversion had to add 1 inch to all dimensions to allow for this

Interesting point about fire regs. When I changed the design to allow exposed beams I consulted the inspector re: Tri iso etc. He came round to look at the finished result and was happy.

Where can I buy Bri wax? I did think to use boiled linseed oil. Would that be sensible?
