Hi there, I have an old lady that has one of these fires the back boiler has been decomisioned and she now has a combi boiler, the lounge she complains is cold for her but didn't seem that bad when I visited her but the permanent vent that was there for the back boiler and the fire (combined rating/air need) is still present, my question is does she still require this for the fire only? it's a closed fronted fuel effect mains gas fire/

Thanks in advance

We kicked this one round in the gas guys only forum a few weeks ago. The consensus was that altjough the back boiler isn't being used the vent still has to be there. About the only thing that you could do would be to fit a black hole vent

its a long time since i was involved in checking ventilation for open flued appliances but back then If I remember rightly,
anything above 5kw input needed permanent ventilation, below that didn't but that was a while ago and I couldn't see what the rating was on the model or source it on the internet, I'll recomend the black hole vent and keep myself right.

Thanks for the input

The fire and back boiler unit are one appliance, does not matter what is in use and what is not ,the ventilation has to be there

Also worth noting Baxi now, do not recommend or approve of one part of appliance decommissioned and the other left working anymore,so if combi fitted and back boiler part of appliance not used/isolated,fire part of appliance should not be used either

Be interesting to know how they decommissioned the boiler.
