help i need enlightenment...can't get the lights to work again :-(

the scene:

there are the 3 cords of wires
two lights red, black, yellow/green (sleeved)
one fan (on a timer) red, blue, yellow, yellow/green (sleeved)
switch com=red, l2= black with red tape (what i believe is the switched live)
lights and fan come on at once but fan stays on after being turned off as on a timer.

therefore.....
join all the reds together in a block and don't connect to anything
, join all the yellow/greens together and connect a wire to the light earth
, join the black and blues and yellow together (except the black with red tape) and connect a wire to light neutral
, join the black with red tape via a brown wire to the light live

my only questionable thing is the yellow?

have even changed the blacks around to ensure i have chosen the switched live.

cheers in advance.

Does your fan have a live and a switched live connection?

Stephen are you saying i could have 2 switches in effect because the fan has a timer?

There is only one main switch that turns two lights on and the fan. Once turned off the fan continues for 5 minutes or so.

I haven't checked the fan wiring as yet. I can however see via the front that it has a yellow wire so is 3 core plus earth.

Just bought a test meter at lunch time to check the switched live.

cheers

Stephen i tested the wires last night and found a switched live. I have put red tape around the black wire.

I had a mate reply and i've summarised what i thought he was saying below. regards

@@@so to summarise

3 cables
2 * 3 = 6 wires
i.e. one with black and red tape is from the switch,
the other is the other light?

and

1 * 4 = 4 wires
i.e 3 core plus earth on the fan

giving a total of 10 wires

green/yellow sleeved cables are the earth conductors and all go together and connect to new lights "earth"? 3 wires

red from fan (or is it " one or more reds "?), black with red tape (switched live) and yellow from fan all go together and connect to new lights "live"? 3 wires

black from other light and blue from fan all go together and connect to the new lights "neutral"? 2 wires

remaining two reds all go together and connect to a connection block...not to light? 2 wires

total 10 wires

p.s. if the red from the switch is in the connection block will the circuit not be able to loop when the switch is turned on?

do both the cables from the switch i.e the cable with the red and black with red tape not go to the live new light switch?

it's just a thought.

p.p.s. it's a Solo Ventex(sp) fan
